WHy BOoks? A Project around art and fiction
For the "Why Books?" project, students read Ray Bradbury's classic dystopian novel Fahrenheit 451, and created art pieces in response to the narrative of a world in which books have been outlawed and abandoned.
Students worked individually or in groups to create their art and used a variety of formats, including painting, sculpture, and video.
Students also wrote a literary analysis of Matthew Arnold's poem "Dover Beach", which is a key reference in Fahrenheit 451, and engaged in multiple seminars during the project.
Finally, students wrote either a literary or historical analysis of Fahrenheit 451, or completed their own piece of dystopian fiction in response to the book.
